Shire of Mundaring Grant Fund to assist community recovery

Media Release from the Shire of Mundaring

Community groups and local businesses facing challenges because of the coronavirus pandemic will soon be able to apply for grants through Shire of Mundaring’s Recover Together – COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund.

The Fund aims to help the Shire partner with community members to deliver a range of programs and initiatives that build community resilience and connectedness.

The tiered grants program is part of a significant COVID-19 relief and recovery budget allocation endorsed by Council this month which includes:

  • $232,500 for the Recover Together – COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund grant pool including a designated officer to manage and administer the Fund and promotion;
  • $200,000 towards potential rates relief for commercial and industrial businesses that can demonstrate financial hardship due to the COVID-19;
  • Provision for a 25% fee waiver for hire fees at Shire facilities for community and commercial hirers;
  • $20,000 for tourism marketing to promote the Perth Hills as a destination of choice;
  • Partnering with the Australian Red Cross to deliver a community wellbeing telephone support and needs assessment program at a cost of $6,000.
  • An unallocated amount of $126,965 will enable a flexible response during the 2020/21 financial year. Council will assess initiatives as the need arises.

Shire President, Cr John Daw, said the Recover Together – COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund was the largest grants program in the Shire’s history.

“Through extensive consultation community and business representatives have told us they have faced a number of hardships since the pandemic began,” he said.

“I am pleased to announce that those who are doing it tough will soon be able to apply for Restart, Reconnect, Rebuild or Resilience grants through the Recover Together Fund.

Cr Daw said eligible groups and businesses could apply for grant assistance ranging from $500 to over $10,000.

“We are proud to invest in our community through this Fund,” he said. “Each level is designed to help build community and economic resilience and connectedness within our shire in a responsive and timely manner.”

Applicants to the Fund will be required to demonstrate ongoing community or economic benefit and that proposed initiatives address the impacts of COVID-19.

Cr Daw said this may include projects or programs which improve mental health, community connection, physical health, financial and food security or business and industry conditions.

“Collaboration between a local government and its community is the key to building resilience,” he said.

“I am excited to see how the initiatives supported by these grants contribute to a vibrant and connected community.”

Recover Together application forms and grant guidelines will be advertised next week.
