Recap – March Networking Sundowner at The Parky

The Parkerville Tavern is a lovely old family pub and restaurant in the heart of the Perth Hills. Steeped in history, we’re sure you’ll agree, this double-storey federation style pub is a local favourite.

Our very own Vice President, T’Anne Mills and husband, Ryan Chandler became the new owners of The Parkerville Tavern on 16 December 2019, only 4 short months ago!

T’Anne, Ryan and their team were the perfect hosts at our March Networking Sundowner and provided us with an insight into their plans and aspirations for the iconic, heritage venue, which include an ever increasing community focus; buying local produce and using local services wherever possible and supporting local volunteer groups such as the Parkerville Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade with fundraising efforts.  There are plans in the pipeline for more entertainment, pub quizzes, music and even a loyalty Limo service, which have all been put on hold recently, for obvious reasons given the current COVID 19 crisis.

We also had the pleasure of being introduced to The Hike Collective, a new tourism business, with its roots in Parkerville, that won a Silver Award at the Perth Airport Tourism Awards at the end of 2019. Business owner and founder, Kate Gibson, explained how The Hike Foundation started out as a Facebook Group, for community meetups as a mental health awareness campaign, raising money and awareness for mental health charities. Kate found that the impact of hiking on her own mental health was something that couldn’t be ignored. It was a successful idea, with a growing community involvement. The Hike Collective in its current form, started in February 2019 and has grown from strength to strength.  To find out more, please visit its website: https://www.thehikecollective.com.au/.

Kate Gibson introduces The Hike Collective

Since the sundowner, life has changed significantly for all our business owners, and we are all having to adapt accordingly and in some cases, ‘hibernate’ until the way we live returns to some kind of normality.  In a few short weeks, The Parkerville Tavern has changed from a busy, bustling pub and restaurant, to a takeaway and delivery business, serving the community with hot food, frozen meals and drinks.

Visit The Parky’s new website, order a homecooked meal, accompanied by a beer or wine, or purchase a pay-it-forward meal to be delivered or picked up by someone who is doing it tough at the moment.

Thank you T’Anne, Ryan, Kelly, Jim and all your team for providing such a great evening, and to Kate from The Hike Collective for an insight into your amazing business.

We look forward to the time when we can hold another sundowner and learn more about our talented business community.
