From the President, September 2020
Since the last newsletter I have met with the Leader of the Opposition (along with our EO). Apart from learning about the area and the effects of the pandemic on local businesses, Ms Harvey was interested to explore with us the developments around the Perth Adelaide National Highway/Orange Route. She followed our meeting with a short tour of the local commercial area.
I have also had a meeting with Matthew Hughes MLA, the Member for Kalamunda, regarding work the Chamber sub-committee members are doing on a major project to encourage visitors to the Hills. We welcome the very active interest that Matthew continues to take in regards to the economic development of the region and hope that other MPs show the same level of interest in the unique challenges facing businesses in the Hills.
In the last newsletter I encouraged Chamber members to consider applying for grants under the Relief and Recovery Budget adopted by the Shire. The Chamber worked hard to ensure that the Council took into account the interests of business when the budget was framed. It would be unfortunate and not a “good look” if businesses did not apply for grants from the monies provided for relief and recovery. The link to the grant applications is here.
We have organised a free session next week , Tuesday 8 September, where Shire Officers will be present to outline what is available and a member of our Committee will lead the evening. Sometimes it is difficult to think laterally about how a grant might apply to your business; this is an opportunity for you to see how. There is no cost for attendance. Register here.
